The Modelages series consists in reinventing the capturing process. I have elaborated, step by step, line after line, the contours of images representing unreal objects and spaces. Using the scanner as a modelling tool, I have been playing with the movement of the light ray, in a similar way to the continuous gesture of the potter, defining volumes and surfaces with the hand. Here the repetitive mechanics and the controlled lighting of the scanner are substitutes for the constant, revolving speed of the wheel. The clay is replaced with fragments of plastic objects, destined for destruction. In both cases, the modelling process is constrained and uncertain, even though it stems from a considerate intention. The hand movements engaging with the raw material have to be mastered and carefully choreographed. Ultimately each uninterrupted session results in a single shot. Any imprecision or incident in the handling process requires to start all over again.
