On earth, elsewhere is an exploration of our planet, and more. By re-interpreting selected satellite images, I wish to shed light on the impact of mankind on the environment. I have explored the aesthetic dimensions of the spaces covered and provided several takes on the world, from abstraction to realism.
This series began in 2016 when I discovered Google Earth. I then started to scrutinize North American territories, from a viewpoint several thousands of kilometers above ground, or getting closer to observe the world in detail. I soon realised I was acting in the same way as when I look through my camera lens, establishing the right distance in relation to my subject, choosing the right frame and deciding on the composition of the images.
While covering several thousand kilometers, I became aware of the unsuspected narrative potential lying beyond the monotonous, cold surface of satellite images. Seen from above, an imaginary landscape made up of abstract shapes was open to my subjectivity. From up close, and in direct echo to this imaginary landscape, the outline of reality - less poetic, political, economic or historical instead - emerged.
